Power Woes…..‘Electricity consumers face wrath of heat’ | KNO

Srinagar, Jul 02 (KNO): In the ongoing scorching heatwave, electricity consumers in Kashmir valley are allegedly facing frequent power cuts—thus pushing the people to face the wrath of heat. The consumers informed the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO) that they have been facing frequent power cuts at the time when they needed it the most. One of the aggrieved consumers Javid Ahmad said, “While the Kashmir is facing the music of severe heatwave, the Power Development Department (PDD) on the other hand are tiring the consumers by the means of frequent power cuts. We are facing the wrath of heat.” Ahmad further said, “It seems that there was a better electricity service before the formation of local government. Earlier, we were not facing that many power cuts.” Another local of Nawakadal wishing anonymity said, “For most of the days, we are facing a power cut from 5Am t0o 12Pm.” He said, “Ironically, this is not the only time we face unscheduled power cuts. We are sometimes deprived of electricity during the peak hours.” The locals of other areas of Kashmir recounted the same affliction. The Principal Secretary of the Power Development Department (PDD) of Jammu and Kashmir H. Rajesh Prasad was not available to comment on the issue. Pertinently, KNO carried a series of stories highlighting the alleged power cuts being faced by the consumers during the ongoing severe heatwave. The officials in previous week had informed KNO that, “In Jammu and Kashmir, JKPDD has a power demand of nearly 3,000 Megawatts including nearly1600 MW from Jammu and around 1350-1400 MW from Kashmir division. “As of now we are delivering more than 2800 MWs of power across Jammu and Kashmir ” the official said—(KNO)
